I am writing to let you know about a wonderful opportunity to highlight the outstanding work of a Nurse Practitioner in your Chapter. This letter summarizes the intent and criteria for the California Association of Nurse Practitioners Bridging Health Care Needs Award and Nurse Practitioner of Distinction Award.
The following is a list of the criteria we are looking for in a candidate for receipt of the Bridging Health Care Needs Award:


• A Nurse Practitioner who is recognized for clinical excellence
• A Nurse Practitioner who provides health care to the underserved

• A Nurse Practitioner who has been a positive catalyst for change in the health care delivery system
• 
A Nurse Practitioner who has met obstacles and challenges in serving patient population
• A Nurse Practitioner who has made contributions toward the professional development of the NP role

Note, the candidates do not need to be a member of CANP to receive an award. 

The Nurse Practitioner of Distinction is an award specifically to recognize a CANP member who demonstrates excellence in furthering the nurse practitioner role either in legislative efforts or clinical application. The intention is to confer the highest recognition for a NP--to be recognized for excellence by your colleagues.

The following is a list of criteria's we are looking for in a candidate to receive the NP of Distinction Award:

•  Active, Full or Emeritus membership in CANP.

•  Nurse practitioner who has demonstrated exemplary profes­sionalism in the nurse practitioner role in either clinical practice, research or community affairs.

•  Nurse practitioner who embodies the ideal: excellence as a role model, source of hope and encouragement to other NP's, and has made exceptional   contributions to the health care  community.

•  Nurse practitioner who furthers the legal/professional standard of the nurse practitioner.

•  Nurse practitioner who has worked diligently in the education and recognition of the consumer of the nurse practitioner concept.
   Categories of consideration include:

•Education, research, administration, management
•Clinical service
•Peer assistance and role modeling
•Public arena/Consumer education
•Political arena/legislative

The Call for Nominations for each award will go out to members and chapters with a return deadline of January 7, 2010. Each chapter is encouraged to nominate at least one person from their chapter. A brief typed description highlighting the nominee’s participation and involvement either in CANP or other community organizations is recommended. All candidates will be recognized with certificates at the annual conference, with one candidate selected and recognized as the overall winner.    Boths forms are due January 7, 2010.
